I just learned that upstream Linux (and the current firmware 2.1.0 RC) [does have a driver for the BMC's thermal sensor](<https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/ebbf19e36d021f253425344b4d4b987f3b7d9be5>) but [the patch that was supposed to enable it](<https://lore.kernel.org/all/20231217210629.131486-4-bigunclemax@gmail.com/>) never landed. It looks like there was a critique about having it disabled by default that was simply never addressed.
