Since not all cables are working, let's try to find out which ones do and why some do not.

For learning more about USB cables, this looks useful (after the annoying cookie prefs): https://uk.rs-online.com/web/generalDisplay.html?id=ideas-and-advice/usb-cable-guide Couple of useful RPi forum threads: https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=250981 https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=284100 And there's a bit of detailed info here: https://behind-the-scenes.net/raspberry-pi-usb-ports/
And the story seems complicated depending on the revision of your RPi: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/raspberry-pi-4-usb-c-update

so the combination of a newer CM4 and a cheaper cable improves your chances of getting it to work?

I have a cheap USB-A - USB-C cable from Hama (0.25m), with a USB-C to USB-A adapter (also Hama) on it, and that works.
Samsung charger cable and Apple USB-C charger cables did not work.
This was with a Jetson

Thank you!
Can I ask what adapter do you mean?
Did you connect some cable to some adapter and used them this way?

With Apple at least, I’d suspect that the cable only has power lanes but no data lanes, at least that’s the type of USB-C->USB-C cable that they ship as charger cable with their laptops

Yeah I didn't expect that one to work either. So I have to make do with 25 cm of cable.

Also when collecting information about what works and what doesn’t, I might be entirely wrong but I’d try to focus on few more factors than the cable itself: - PC/mac - Intel/AMD (could indicate Thunderbolt being a factor) - Hub/direct connection - Trying to connect to node1/node2-4 (I’ve seen multiple times people having problems connecting to node1 specifically) https://discord.com/channels/754950670175436841/754950670175436848/1066884421933858888
Actually if interested, could just collect all the data in a spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1a-jr-F0fiPp1uop-cHFDvlHQczpCG9kCmqW__f-YRuk/edit?usp=sharing
